The 15th annual Keurig Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway included a twist that led to an unprecedented conclusion.
The giveaway consists of student finalists competing during halftime at ACC, Big 12, SEC, Big Ten, and Pac-12 conference games. The goal is to throw as many footballs as possible into an oversized Dr Pepper can from a five-yard distance within 30 seconds. The winner at each event receives a $100,000 college scholarship.
This year's Big 12 championship game on December 2, 2023 included a unique occurrence: two of the competitors, Gavin White of Ohio State and Ryan Georgian of Penn State (shown below), tied with the same number of points. The need for a tiebreaker arose, leading to a second round that ended in another tie. Fans took to social media as a scoring issue was noticed during the double overtime which resulted in an inaccurate reading of the points.
Keurig Dr Pepper generously recognized both White and Georgian as grand prize winners and awarded each with a $100,000 tuition prize.
Throughout the past fifteen years, the Keurig Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway has donated $17.5 million in scholarships through this program.
