Through PepsiCo's Equity in Sports Initiative, Gatorade partnered with Laureus USA to support Near West Recreation in Cleveland with a $50,000 grant to refurbish the Lakeview Community Center basketball court, ensuring kids in the surrounding community had a safe and welcoming place to play.
Gatorade, in partnership with Laureus USA and Good Sports, returned when court renovations were complete to help unveil the court and celebrate with an evening of activities during the 2024 NCAA Women’s Final Four weekend to encourage girls to get into/remain in the game.
Near West Recreation was established in 2013, and is a partnership between Ohio City Incorporated, North West Neighborhood Community Development Organization, Tremont West Development, and Metro West Development Organization. Offering year-round recreation programming for children of all ages as well as select programs for adults, they offer need-based financial assistance available to participants living on Cleveland's Near West side, making it accessible to all with their sliding-scale system.
